NCED - promoting the dignified adaptation of indigenous people

NCED

NCED (Northeast Community Education and Development Organisation) supports the livelihoods and environmental efforts of indigenous people in Mondulkiri district, northeast Cambodia. As new companies and organisations arrive in the region, indigenous communities face both challenges and opportunities. NCED helps local people adapt to these changes with dignity by promoting community engagement, sustainable livelihoods, and education in their native languages.

NCED focuses on community work by listening to the needs of indigenous people and addressing their challenges using their existing resources. They emphasise the importance of indigenous identity for resilience and development.

Their activities include multilingual education, livelihood programs, and building on indigenous knowledge and skills. The NCED team is dedicated to a community-based approach that respects indigenous culture and self-determination.

In the long run, NCED aims for indigenous farmers to have improved, sustainable livelihoods and networks that utilise their natural resources, including forests. They also strive to provide relevant education in the Bunong language, which can lead to more innovative and sustainable livelihood options.

The organisation has 10 staff members, nine of whom are indigenous Bunong, working to serve their local communities. NCED has its roots in the International Cooperation Cambodia, which has a history of working with indigenous communities in the region.
